The story behind the wine

Jeffrey Grosset is one of Australia's most famous winemakers and Grosset Wines is his independently owned winery. Established in 1981, the winery is situated in the historic township of Auburn in South Australia’s Clare Valley and produces only certified organic wines from hand-picked grapes. Production is restricted to ensure quality and only 25% of Jeffrey's wines are exported. It was no suprise that Grosset Wines was named in the World’s ‘2017 Top 100 Wineries’ by Wine & Spirits (USA).

Gaia is unusual in being one of only two red wines Jeffrey produces and so volumes are vanishingly small. The Gaia vineyard is situated at the highest point of the Clare Valley. It is a rocky, isolated, wind-swept two hectare block close planted by Grosset in 1986 that sits above the rolling golden cornfields of the Clare Valley. This challenging and cool environment means a wine of Old World style complexity (much like a Bordeaux) but with New World intensity of flavour.

Gaia is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. Built to last, this is a rare opportunity to taste one of Australia's finest wines over four consecutive vintages.
