Twelve boutique wines (six white and six red) from passionate people doing extraordinary things in the name of taste
Contains two bottles each of:
2016 Sancerre, Domaine Nicolas Girard, Loire, France (13% alcohol)
An artisanal Sancerre produced by young winemaker Nicolas Girard from his tiny 3.5 hectares of vines. Unoaked, this Sancerre is refreshing and beautifully bright with citrus flavour and nettle - the hallmark of top quality Sauvignon Blanc from this part of the World.
2015 'Terroir' Valle de Uco Malbec, Altos Las Hormigas, Argentina (14% alcohol)
Life for Altos Las Hormigas was not easy, the vineyards the young founders planted in this famous patch of the Andes were decimated by ants. However, they have prevailed and the estate is recognised by leading critics as one of Argentina's most preeminent. Vivid and generous with flavours of sweet cherries and fresh figs, this wine is also crisp and complex and perfect with red meat.
2015 Saint-Véran Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Corsin, Burgundy, France (14% alcohol)
Good Burgundy at a reasonable price is harder and harder to find. This is why we are delighted to make available this full and generous Saint-Veran (one of the Maconnais' most sought after regions) from Domaine Corsin, a family-owned estate now into its fifth generation. Grapes from old vines make this wine complex, with apricot and citrus flavour and aromas of white flowers.
2015 Bordeaux Supérieur, Château Mahon-Laville, Bordeaux, France (14% alcohol)
Not any Bordeaux, but a Bordeaux from the family estate of Jean-Christophe Barbe who is the Professor of Oenology (Winemaking) at the University of Bordeaux. Mostly Merlot (80%) and with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon, this is a classic but powerfully flavoured Bordeaux produced from just 1.3 hectares of vines.
2015 Swartland Chenin Blanc, Spice Route, South Africa (13.5% alcohol)
Spice Route was founded by one of the true pioneers of premium South African wine, Charles Back. From the hot and uncompromising Swartland region, this rich and tropically flavoured white wine (melon and pineapple flavours are to the fore) is from a vineyard planted all the way back in 1978.
2014 `Lioness of McLaren Vale` Shiraz, Dandelion Vineyards, Australia (14.5% alcohol)
Another story of "prosper or perish", this benchmark Australian Shiraz is produced by winemaking couple Elena and Zar Brooks from an ancient ironstone pebble vineyard in South Australia. Deep purple with lush flavours of summer pudding, this is comfort and generosity in a glass.
